Wodwo & Simon McCorry - Every Creeping Thing (Whitelabrecs / Close) + Notable Singles
"it's a slowly fermented project, giving the complex folkloric, modern classical & questing ambient electronic flavours time to deepen & round"
A few brief thoughts…
With so much music immediately buried under the relentless release deluge, this wonderful collaboration from Wodwo & Simon McCory from April, definitely deserves a second wind. Both prolific artists, it's a slowly fermented project, giving the complex folkloric, modern classical & questing ambient electronic flavours time to deepen & round. The strings dig deep into ancient lore & nature's essence, whilst the somehow complimentary electronic frequencies voyage up and out to unravel the mysteries of the cosmic dark ages & join the universal dots.

Great New Singles & Emerging Artists from the Independent Underground
Liza Lo crept into Bandcamp's folktronic shadows about 4 years ago, but has swapped the machines for an organic, professionally polished mainstream sound to pretty stunning effect. On "Confiarme" she flexes her linguistic muscles as well as her impressive vocal range over a full bodied folk arrangement that sweeps the tide of emotions through the speakers. Find her in the Slow Indie-Folk Playlist.
Antarctic Wastelands treads lightly & rarely puts a foot wrong. "Electric Dreams" is a distant ambient hum shrouded in a haze of life's surface noise & peppered with the twinkling frequencies of distant stars. On the flip the clouds thicken & a fog rolls in, further dulling but never obscuring the soundscape beauty. Find him in the Slow Ambient Playlist.
When beat producers start playing rather than sampling it rarely ends well, but The Cromagnon Band have obviously put in the practise room hours. Unsurprisingly the drums are an old school dream - funked up & firing, but hold tight for the full bodied cinematic jazz meets psychedelic scuzz - ouch. Wave your funk freak flag in the Slow Psyche Playlist.
Photay is lining up a new LP for later in the year on Mexican Summer & if "Derecho" is anything to go by, it's going to be an Indian summer soundtrack. Warm, unhurried beats & generous low end frequencies propel you beachward, exotic chimes add a touch of far flung mystery as the uplifting synths raise spirits & a smile. It's going to be a good day. Find it snuggled nicely into the Slowtronic Playlist.
Jeff Cramer has a nice line in various strains of folk & Americana, from radio friendly indie to backwoods campfire. On his new LP he digs a little deeper into the roots condition, even taking some cosmic country tangents at times. The distinctly hazy, double microdosed late night delight "Studio Lights" is our pick & sounding particularly suited to the Slow Psyche playlist.
